look to the sky

winter
in a slow fade
snow lay in shady spots...
the end of March still chills our bones--
Spring waits

so cold
germs froze mid-air
leaving us in the chill--
we made it through winter with no
sniffles

through-out
the snow clad day
bare spots from a slow melt
green - umber - brown and tawny tan--
revealing

winter
glares icily--
Spring has taken control
turning the temperature up
a notch

leaving behind
footprints in the snow
the beginning
of a new year --
first impressions

then I hear someone say

off in the distance I hear geese
honking
